All along there was some invisible string, tying you to me.
Our Story - Louise
In high school and college, George and I spent so much time together that our friends coined the term “Lorge” (our names smushed together). The term ‘Lorge’ was, at first, kind of a joke, but as the years went by, it stuck. Now, our friends and family lovingly call us by that name. It’s been our license plate in both Minnesota and California, and it’s on signs and greeting cards all over our apartment.
We met in Eagan AM, a broadcast journalism class. Before that, I only had two memories of George — first, as the breakout freshman in track who was already running on the varsity team, and second, as the guy in English class who somehow always had a bloody nose.
On the first day of Eagan AM, our teacher, Mr. Saxton, split us into groups. George and I ended up together in Group Two along with a few other classmates. We had a lot of freedom during class; we were allowed to roam the halls, conducting interviews and getting b-roll. Occasionally, we’d land a big story and spend afternoons or weekends shooting. That’s how George and I got to know each other — spending hours learning Final Cut Pro in the editing suite, brainstorming ideas for the next story, and going to countless games, matches, and meets to film b-roll for The Wildcat Report (the sports segment of the show).
I have so many favorite memories from high school with George, and I feel so lucky that we grew up together. Now, ten years later, as full-fledged adults, we’re parents to our cat, Sushi; we’ve started to travel the world; we’ve moved across the country to San Diego; and we hope to achieve so much more together. I think a lot about how the stars aligned to place us together in Group Two all those years ago (thank you, Mr. Saxton). How could I — a girl born across the world — have found my best friend in a high school elective class? I am endlessly in love with George and I’m so excited to marry my best friend.
Cheers to many more Lorge adventures!
Our Story - George
Louise and I first officially met at the start of our junior year in high school after being grouped together in Eagan AM. It wasn’t long before I found myself spending as much time as possible with Louise – walking to each class together, collaborating on any group projects, and staying late to work on homework or film clips for next week’s broadcast. By the end of high school, it was clear to me that I needed Louise in my life.
Despite battling the long distance between the University of Minnesota and St. Thomas campuses (2.8 Miles!), our relationship blossomed in college. We learned to prioritize each other in our lives and committed to building a stronger connection each day.
After graduating, we started to build our life together. We achieved milestones such as renting our first apartment in Minneapolis, purchasing our first car together (the lorge-mobile), adopting the world’s best cat, and moving across the country together.
Through all of life’s journeys in the past 10 years, nothing has been more rewarding than our commitment to each other. I’m so proud of the woman she has become, and I strive to be the best version of myself for her.
I’m so excited to finally write the next chapter of our story as Husband and Wife.
